How do I work out how much NI I will pay

Is it like when calculating income tax?

Ie if say I earn £20,000 do I take off the personal allowance and then times by 11%?

Do you still have to pay NI if you earn below the annual personal allowance?

assuming you are in paid employment (and not self employed) then it works on a weekly or monthly basis depending upon how you are paid.

assuming you are not contracted out of the state second pension then you pay 11% over 105 per week or 453 per month.

I got busy and created a spreadsheet to estimate both Tax & NI, and tell you roughly what you will earn per/week.
I wrote it to allow me to estimate my potential earnings given a set of hours. The idea being that I could work-out if it was better to work overtime during the week, or do it all on Saturday morning.

As yet it dose not differentiate between lower & high tax bands, but I will try to incorporate this as and when I get to grips with Ooo's strange formula's.
