Hi, new to this. I have a question i hope someone can answer. My husband already has a mortgage with Bank of Ireland but out of fixed rate and now paying £714 on interest only mortgage per month !!. We tried to apply for a mortgage with with HSBC this was turned down, reason given did not meet criteria (incomings and outgoings i assume) . Tried again with the Woolwich, went through all initial procedure spent ages on the phone, said he would do credit search and came back fine whilst on phone and sent out paperwork. Completed same, sent back and then told that due to adverse credit on my file was refused. Have a default from 2004 for o2 phone (unaware of) but think it is correct Any suggestions desperately need repayment mortgage ? Thanks

Defaults will stay on your record for (I believe) six years, someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
If you feel the default has been applied in error, contact O2. If they do nothing you can also add a note to your credit file with the various credit agencies (experian and equifax being the two largest) explaining the default, could help for future applications.0
