Hi all
I took voluntary redundancy from very stressful work but was hoping to get a part time job. I am going to register with JSA, however, can they stop my superannuation pension if they offered my a job and I did not want that particular type of work?. What makes me ask is that they can stop peoples' benefits if they refuse work but I am not claiming state benefits, I am receiving a work related pension?

They have the ability to stop paying income support if you consistently refuse to accept work but there is no way they can stop your pension income because that's nothing to do with them.
They will use the pension income in any means-testing. Might have been better to defer taking the pension if you didn't need the income.Mortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)

Only your employer can choose when your pension starts. It would be very odd if they could stop a pension.
Give the job centre a chance, they may find something suitable. Not the best market now though.0 -
I was told I could apply for JSA even though I took voluntary redundancy and got a lump sum from my past employer. I have paid enough N I C. I receive a pension from my work and I am not eligible for state benefits. I understood that to claim JSA a person must be available for work - which I am. However, if I get offered a job which I cannot nor do not want to take (I do have some medical problems) can JSA stop my private work pension0

They cannot stop your pension but they can stop JSA.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Thanks everyone. I would love a part time job but I'm not building my hopes up. That's why I went into the Job Centre to see if they could help. I did not understand the benefit system but I am getting the hang of it now. The full time job that I had was killing me because of the workload, pressure etc It has left me very anxious - hopefully with time that will ease. I don't regret taking voluntary redundancy - to me it was a life saver.
Some people advised me to go on incapacity benefit but that is the last thing I want to do.:T0
