Halifax PPI
Options
Ok here's the rough guide to how I think I have just been totally squashed by Halifax.
Took out a loan in 2007 (think it was May, maybe even April)... anyway I got sign off work for 6 months with depression, anxeity and stress in July 2007. Finally went back to work in Jan 08. Still waiting now for Argos to pull their finger out and sort out the NIC code.
Anyway, I also had PPI on my Halifax credit card. But I feel that Halifax have just basically let me down.
They say they will pay 10% of the balance per month, but having just queried how much they are expecting to pay me back is... well astounding if not down right disgusting.
As my CC balance was £579.90 at the time of me going off sick, they say they will be paying 10% of that balance every month. So basically, as my balance was getting higher and higher during the time I was off, that is it!
Does this sound right? I have never had to claim before, and now I am back on my feet and raring to go at them with this.
Surely no matter what your balance is, whether it be 500 or 10,000... surely they should honour the 10% off your balance, rather than sticking to the 10% of the first month of you going off sick.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated at this point, cos I am fuming at not only the amount, but also the lack of effort on their part and that of my employer at the time.
Thanks in advance.

surely if they were paying 10% off the balance the total would be dropping
or were you spending on the card?0 -
I was having to spend, obviously being on SSP and not having a full wage made it very difficult to survive.Raising awareness for Pancreatic Cancer UK and Macmillan... doing a sponsored 10k skydive for both charities.

well, with respect, I don't think it at all reasonable to expect them to pay more than that based on the balance when you were first off sick.0

I don't know, as I said I don't know what is the normal procedure.
When they said 10% of your monthly balance... I imagined it would be 10% of the monthly balance no matter what month it was, not just that of the beginning.Raising awareness for Pancreatic Cancer UK and Macmillan... doing a sponsored 10k skydive for both charities.

Yes that would be exactly normal practice
well lets suppose you then spent 10,000 on the CC. after you became ill.. would you really expect them to pay 1000 per month off?
the insurance is intended to protect you from your debt when you become ill/redundant etc and help you pay it off .... it's not an open cheque book.0 -
Oh god no, I haven't spend that much, but don't know how much those months that I was off sick for were.
They said that when I first came off sick, that I owed £579, but by the time I managed to get back into work, my account had gone up to £1500, so I can hardly say that I was going on a spending spree and expecting them to pay for it.
But without being able to see the statements for the months that I was off, it is hard to tell. I did ask Halifax for the amounts, but they just patched me through to Insurance line.
I was off for 6 months, and had a family to support in the mean time, it's not as if I was doing it intentionally. But having to survive on pennies was extremely hard, hence why I used the CC. Strickly emergencies only, and that included christmas.Raising awareness for Pancreatic Cancer UK and Macmillan... doing a sponsored 10k skydive for both charities.

your PPI insurance was to pay the debt off and not alas to fund future spending however justified.
there are other insurances that will providing living costs ASU (accident, sickness and unemployment) but it's too late now for that.0 -
Just wondering if it's worth claiming it back after all the hassle it has been with it.
When having been told what I was told, and then being told differently. It would probably work out more beneficial to me to claim back the PPI on it all, seeing how it actually hasn't helped my situation at all.
Having still had to make the payments to both CC and Loan, and not having had a penny for my PPI, wouldn't you agree that I might be within my right to do so?Raising awareness for Pancreatic Cancer UK and Macmillan... doing a sponsored 10k skydive for both charities.
