removing a default after a personal loss!

hey guys i have just been on the phone to british gas recoveries and was wanting some ideas thrown in the mix

right im going to write a letter to british gas to remove my defaults that are satisfied from 2005 i received them not long after my wife died (she was 22 i was 21) leaving me with my son of just 4 months i dont remember having received a default notice to either default! would i just ask them to have the it in them to show me some sympathy and remove the defaults as i paid them off as soon as i sorted my life out after such a loss??? or go down a different path any help would be great as i would like to send this letter recorded delivery tomorrow

    You defaulted, the information is correct. The circumstances surrounding the default are irrelevent and that's the attitude you'll receive.

    Don't bother wasting your time and get on with your life. Your credit record will show the debt as satisfied and you'd get more mileage adding a note to your credit file which the credit reference agencies have instructions for on their sites.
  • Conor I take your point but it does come across as a bit brutal especially as the OP had the problems after his wife died at 22.

    Um to the OP I don't really know enough to advise you but I suspect it will be a long uphill battle.
    Maybe phone National Debtline and see what they say. I think the idea of maybe adding a note to your credit file might help as well.
