Defaulted Account with 3 mobile - HELP !!!

  • Hi Ali,

Just to let you know that even if they change the status to 'settled' it will still remain on your credit file for the next 6 years.

When I graduated from uni I had several accounts that had defaulted and was in debt to about just under 5k. Remember that 1 defaulted account is not the only factor that could be affecting your credit, it could be how long you’ve lived at your address, are you registered as being on the electoral role, how good are you at paying back your other credit commitments etc.

I had 6 accounts that had defaulted and one was with T-Mobile, about a year later I tried my luck just to see if I could get a monthly contract with them and I did, I also managed to get 4 other credit cards with fairly high credit limits so don’t despair just yet! ;)

For me, I thought I was on the electoral roll but it turned out when I moved house to be closer to uni and then went back home I wasn’t re-registered at my home address. Also, don’t just rely on a credit file from one company, I got mine from Experian, Equifax and Callcredit, all 3 had varying info on them and be sure to update any accounts that you have and may not be using.

    :)

I know this is only one factor and I have not always paid my bills on time. I am on the electoral roll but I will check with the other companies. I spoke to Experian yesterday and was told that it would be changed from defaulted to settled if 3 do it from their end and there will be no trace of it on my file.

I also spoke to 3 today and they basically said that I still have to pay the outstanding amount before my credit file can be changed and what the retailer does is seperate to them. I told them that I did not recieve a default notice or any letter saying that I owed any money. I don't think there is anything else I can do, I'm just going to have to pay the amount to restore my credit file. If they had sent me prior warning I wouldn't have minded as much.
  • Ali if I were you I would get it in writing from '3' that your credit file will be amended/updated and any default record will be deleted after you've paid, otherwise you've no guarantee that once you pay that your account it won’t just say settled and stay that way for the next 6 years because '3' have got their money and are not bothered.
