CCJ Advice Needed please

Hi

First time here, hello everyone :) I am a single mother who is struggling to raise three kids, complete a degree course, keep the house tidy, do the washing, shopping, ironing etc and try to stay sane!! I hope you can help.

I had a CCJ registered against me in 2006 and I have been trying to stay hidden from my creditors ever since. When we moved I didn't tell them where we were headed for, or leave a forwarding address. They don't know where we are at the moment, but they will find us eventually I am positive.

The CCJ value is £9000 (give or take). I don't want to shy away from this or run any more. I need to resolve this and I don't want it hanging over me or my boys.

What is the best way for me to resolve this and get the best result for my family? Shall I contact them and offer them a settlement figure? (EG, "I can pay you £10 a week for 20 years or I can pay £2000 in cash tomorrow?") I could get a bank loan to pay them off and then re-pay my bank. (The rest of my finances are in -relatively- good order.)

My main concern is that when I contact them they may come after us all guns blazing, letters, debt collectors, or -god forbid- bailiffs.

What should I do???

Do you have your own house or do you rent?
They may be able to get a charging order against you if you have your own property.

I would advise contacting nationaldebtline for guidance. They will be able to advise you what to do but i am not sure as you have defaulted on a CCJ so this may cause problems.

Not sure you will be able to get a bank loan - at least not at a good rate as having a ccj on your credit file will work against you.

Hopefully others have better advice they can give.

  • Yes, our house is owned, it's our only real asset. Thanks for the advice George.

The CCJ was registered against me in my maiden name, strangely I've had no problem getting credit at all since I got married. Hopefully I will be able to get a loan to pay this if needed.........
