Hi there,
I had a default on my credit history logged in 2004. A debt recovery firm contacted me shortly after (the debt had been sold to them) and I made payments for two years and cleared the debt. It is shown as settled on my credit report.
I got a letter yesterday from another firm telling me they had bought the debt and they have mangaed to put another default on my credit report from now.
What can I do to have this taken off as I have settled this and am totally confused as to why this has come back again????
Please help as I had just got myself back into a good position and now i feel at rock bottom again!

Ring the new company and explain that this debt has already been settled and you have proof of it.
They then should be able to tell you how to sort this out.

Hi
Have you got any letters etc. from the previous debt collectors to say that the debt had been settled etc.?
If you havent could you ring the previous debt collectors and ask them to send you a letter stating that?
Then call the current debt collectors and explain the situation. also send them a letter detailing the situation with copies of letters from old DCA to say the debt had been settled in full.
You can also request that the default be removed from your credit file as it should not have been issued against a debt already settled.
I hope this helps.

I did receive a letter but I had to send this to Experian so they could log the defaulted account as settled so I no longer have it and I can't find the copy I made of it either!0

I would contact the original debt collectors and ask for a copy of the letter. Or a new on stating the debt was paid.
They should be able to do this for you.

Hi there!
I found a copy of the letter stating I had settled the account and called the new guys to tell them. They asked me to fax over a copy and that should sort it. I need to call Experian to have the default removed so fingers crossed the problem will be over!!
Thank you for your help0
