    I think you'd know if you had cable in your area but you could go on https://www.ntl.com and put your postcode in - you should get it back saying whether you have it or not.

    Skintchick. I don't have cable and it is doubtful if it will come here as there is little demand.
    No digital tv either.
    I have broadband on my BT telephone line and it ok.

    I think you can assume you don't have the cable option. First you need to decide dial up or broadband. Try dial-up first because it's cheaper and you say you're a light user. Then you can look for the best ISP. Then you can look at your phone calls and do that.

    One thing at a time - try out dial up and decide whether it's what you want. Once you've decided on the connection, you can find out more.

    Personally I don't recommend Wanadoo.(2 months left of 12 month contract)
    BT broadband heard no complaints. ( ? minimum contract/ unknown)
    Virgin.net I have had no feed back. (No 12 month contract)
    I have heard talk of Metro.net again I have no feed back (? minimun contract/ unknown)
