Different UK Salary calculated amounts - which one is correct?

I've just entered a salary e.g. 22000 pa into 3 different UK calculators which are supposed to show you your take home pay.

Each one shows a different monthly take home amount after national insurance:

£1408.00 / £1415.63 / £1388.38

Does anyone know the most accurate calculator?

Thanks

  • I've looked at a few and most of them give £1405.63 ( £1415.63 for paydays after next Sunday).

The difference seems to be in the NIC. For class 1 contributions the rate should be 11% on pay between the primary threshold (£105/week) and the UEL (£770/week) and 1% on pay above the UEL. source: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/rates/nic.htm

My calculation is that NIC on 22k a year should be 151.62 a month.

The calculator here: http://www.thesalarycalculator.co.uk/salary.php has it right.

The one here: http://www.i-resign.com/uk/financialcentre/tax_calculator_tool.asp is using £90 a week as the primary threshold for NIC instead of £105. £90 is the LEL (the amount you need to earn a week to qualify for certain pensions and benefits) not the primary threshold.

    Hope that helps.

There's only one problem though - everyones tax allowance is increasing to over £6k as from next week as the Govt sorts out the 10p tax debacle.
  • As I said above
£1405.63 ( £1415.63 for paydays after next Sunday).

The tax changes give you a "bonus" £60 in the first pay after the change, and then an extra £10 a month. The NIC rates and thresholds don't change next week.
