Hi all!
I would really like to make up some chutneys to give as Christmas presents. However I can't find any good recipes anywhere. I was wondering if anyone here had a good recipe that they could share.
Also just wondering how people tend to wrap them up etc so they look pretty.

Can't help with recipes I am afraid however you could use a normal jam jar and then get some gingham fabric and cut into squares then tie that over the lid with a band of somekind to give it a nice home made effect

Here are a couple of recipes that i have found and saved ready for Christmas.
Banana Chutney
Description/Notes:
A very mild fruity chutney with just a hint of curry
Ingredients:
12 bananas
8 oz. (225g) stoned raisins
4 oz. (125g) currants
8 oz. (225g) sugar
2 oz. (50g) salt
half an ounce (12g) powdered cinnamon
1 oz. (25g) mild curry powder
1 pint (570ml) vinegar
Cooking Instructions:
Peel and slice the bananas, add them to the vinegar and boil until the consistency of porridge
Add the other fruit and spices and simmer for a further 15 minutes
Spoon into clean, warmed jars then seal and label
Any Fruit Chutney
3lb any fruit or veg (I have used apples, plums & tomatoes so far)
3/4 - 1 pint vinegar
1/2 lb chopped onions
1 tsp grated orange or lemon peel
1 dessertspoon each of: Ginger, Curry Powder & Mixed Spice
1/4lb sultanas
1lb sugar
Peel and chop fruit/vegetables and simmer in a preserving pan with the vinegar, chopped onions and grated lemon/orange peel stirring occasionally until fruit is tender. Add 1/4 lb sultanas and 1lb sugar and cook stirring occasionally until thick. Pour into hot jars - cover with waxed discs and seal down carefully.
Points to remember
1) never put a lid on when cooking it
2) you know when its done by getting a knife and making a line in the middle of mixture if the gap is not filled with vinegar for about 5 seconds its done, (if the line disappears within 5 seconds boil it longer).
3) make sure your jars are sterilised properly
Christmas Chutney
Ingredients
700g/1lb 8½oz Granny Smith apples, peeled and cored
250g/9oz dried cranberries
1 onion, finely chopped
350ml/12fl oz apple cider vinegar
200g/7oz sugar
1 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp ground coriander
2 tsp salt
Method
1. Slice the apples into halves. Slice the halves lengthways into smaller pieces, roughly 0.5cm/¼in width.
2. Place the apple pieces and finely chopped onion into a saucepan with all the other ingredients. Heat the mixture until it is simmering quickly. Cook the mixture for 45 minutes, or until the chutney has thickened slightly and the fruit has become soft.
3. Spoon the mixture into sterilized jars and screw the lids onto the jars tightly. Allow to cool before storing in a cool, dark place.

This one (marrow chutney) is gorgeous. I made it last week and it tastes a bit like Branston but less vinegary. A big hit in my house.0
