should be free to park in all hospitals anyway i mean its not as if we really want to be there we would defo rather be somwhere else but when people are ill and we need to see them the last thing we should have to think about is looking for a parking machine to pay to park in,
    :T I love MSE ! :j

In my view this is a stealth tax on the sick and their families.

Parking charges at Hospitals never should never have been introduced in the first place...
    People cannot help being ill!!!

Just heard that the health service in Scotland make about £5 million a year out of parking charges.

Wonder what will have to be compromised now?

The Scottish Government (sic) are softening the blow by giving them £1.5 million payment.

As was said on the radio an easy and relatively cheap vote winner for the SNP.
  • Come on Mr Brown, do something to HELP the people for a change. When I lived in Essex they introduced car parking charges to employ a private security company to enforce the charges. The first night they wheelclamped 10 vehicle, all belonging to Dr's and Nurses, the second night I went to the same hospital at gone 11pm to be with my wife who had gone into labour with our first child, I parked in a disabled bay outside the maternity suite and a message was sent to the labour ward telling me to go and get a ticket or they will clamp me (I am a fully registered disabled person and was displaying my badges) so I had to go out and drive around trying to find somewhere to get change of a £5 note to pay the charges at 1145pm, when I returned, someone had parked in the disabled bay WITHOUT displaying badges, they had NOT been clamped though. So I had to park some distance away in the main car park and eventually got back to be with my wife 10 mins before she gave birth. But when you wanted to get hold of anyone from the security company they would not answer their phones. In the end the Truast sacked them for using strong arm tactics against staff and disabled people. But the new company was not much better, they had CCTV installed to help reduce car crime in the hospital car park, but the crime rate increased not decreased. So what were we paying for ??

As another member said earlier, another stealth tax....

My local hospital has never charged for parking.

Hate to make it worse but by 2011 prescription charges will be abolished here as well, so England will be the only country in GB paying for them.
  • you must be joking, Gordon brown give us anything, he thinks delaying stamp duty for a year will keep us happy, and most people wont be eligible as houses cost a damn site more than £175,000.

great that this has happened in Scotland but i wont hold my breath here in the south;)

and here's me thinking it was a NATIONAL Health Service..

I believe NHS Scotland is an entirely separate entity to NHS England (as is NHS Wales)
  • I live in Scotland but my city is one of the ones that still have to pay for parking
