Any recommended make-up consultations?

Hi,
Can anyone recommend a decent independent make-up consultation for the over 50s, preferably in Birmingham or Manchester? I want to treat my mum for Christmas, but we don't want to be ripped off/misadvised by the over made-up women who always seem to staff the department store counters. Thanks.

What about trying a hairdresser that has beauty treatments/facials/make up as well. They are definitely not trying to sell you any particular products.0

You could try going through an image consultant instead, then they would (hopefully) advise your mum about her overall look and not try to push particular products on her. Mind you I'm sure they'll refer her to their 'recommended' make-up artist and get some money for a referral. Then the make-up artist may try to flog you products anyway. I'm not sure you'll get completely independent as they have to make some income from the products they sell.
OR
You could try a wedding make-up artist, they're mostly freelance.

I used to do makeovers when I was a make up artist and at the end present the client with a portflio of what products I had used and how she could recreate the look herself. I never used to try and flog anything. So maybe you could try ringing a freelance make up artist from the local paper or yellow pages.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040
