I am writing because over the years, without telling me, my Mum as racked up thousands of pounds of debt (including two secured loans). She cannot keep up the payments and I've run out of money trying to help her out. The last thing I want is for her to lose her home but I'm no expert on these matters. She's been to the CAB but the have been absolutely useless. I don't know what to do. Any advice would be most gratefully received.

Hey Jase,
Try the CCCS or Payplan, these are fee free charities designed to help people. In the mean time work out a budget with your mum and prioritize your bills, obviously mortgage and secured loan and council tax would be 1st others would come 2nd.
You can post your SOA on here and people will look at them and offer advise.

Thank you Chilli Dog for responding so quickly. Mum has contacted CCCS and they were very helpful and are going to advise her on a budget. I redecorated a room in her house a couple of weeks ago and she has now found a lodger - hopefully this will help.
What I don't understand is how the banks could be so irresponsible to loan large amounts of money to a poorly paid single nurse close to retirement. Mind you, I suppose it's this kind of lending that has led to the current credit crunch.0 -
Hi Jase,
Get yourself/your mum onto the Debt Free Wannabe board on this forum - you will get amazing practical help and emotional support from people who have seen it all before.
Best of luck0 -
Thanks Mrs Chicken. I shall do that.0
