Fridge not working - help!

Options
Just come back from a long weekend at the parents. Not only have I come down with a stinking cold but I've just discovered that the fridge has packed up. All the fresh food's gone off and will have to be chucked out :( As the fridge belongs to the landlord I'll have to wait a couple of days before it's fixed. Any OS ideas about how to cope without a fridge? The main worry is fresh milk & veg. Also, what do people think about the jars of lazy ginger/chilli etc that were stored in the fridge - shall I chuck them out or will they be ok? Don't ask me to smell them to see if they're ok because my nose is utterly blocked up at the moment.................

Jars etc should be fine - I remember when none of these used to go in the fridge anyway. When I was at Uni many years ago everyone used to hang their fridge stuff out of the window in a plastic bag to keep it cold at this time of year. It worked well but then again, winter did seem colder then....

I lived with out an fridge freezer for a week before I moved house earlier on in the year.

Fresh veg I put in the coolest cupboard I could and for milk I fresh milk but ran a sink for of cold water and put it in that when not in use. But bought small cartons and it was used with in about day and half.

make sure the place it is ain't too cold - this caused my fridge to pack up a couple of times, being in my unheated, old and breezy utility room! ;) It will stop working if it does not need to!

If you've got an esky just use that. Buy some ice to put in it. I would stick to long life milk if the weather is still warm.

It's good and cold now. Leave your milk outside, but not in sunlight, and it will be fine.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.
