It all over!!

It all over!! Quite a number of people working with my OH believe it is all over. Lets get back to normal. No need to panic! OMG I cannot stand it. My OH has spoken to people in the building industry and neighbours in the last few days who are seeing things picking up:j . That is great
. The only thing is my OH and I do not see this. As some of you may know we run our own business and thanks to MSE I was made aware of this in December/January last year (thank goodness). I am getting sick and tired of all these people who are in denial. People are getting paid off all around us and the signs from the top is it is not good. Some more housebuilders will be paying off staff as jobs finish. We ourselves have paid off a couple of people but are still OK until Xmas. After that we have nothing - not a thing. We have another couple of jobs to price which we may get but it will be hard going.
Has anyone else came across this denial mentality!!!

Its the same as the grief process apparently, Denial, then Disbelief, Then Anger, ... through to Acceptance... (The latter stage is when the FTB's should jump in apparently).0

What drives me crazy is people saying we're "talking ourselves into a recession". As if it's just a psychological state, not the natural outcome of an economy based on huge levels of debt.0

Nope, it's actually driven by the opinions of bearish posters on MSE. Didn't you know--
Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.0 -

We were all getting back to normal (properly valued and priced property), sadly the government may have just temporarily messed this up with their inept meddling.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I don't quite understand this, either they are seeing things pick up or they are not what has denial got to do with it?'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
This is the 'Bull Trap'. People think that the existing pretty steep drop is 'it' and things can now get back to normal.

In this case, it could be triggered by people's desire to believe that the new measures are the answer to their problems.
Don't be surprised at an apparent arresting of the downward trend, maybe even a short reversal, before we resume going down at speed. Anyone who buys in during that time is going to be extremely sorry that they did.--

As a finance director for a construction company, things are NOT getting better from where I sit. From my experience and that of others I know, the only work from housebuilders is where they have properties substantially complete and need them finishing off. We have had no new work from housebuilders for some months and are not expecting any for say 18 months.
The bank are withdrawing funding for housebuilders even after they have agreed and I know of many many people losing their jobs in construction and associated sectors. My thoughts are with them and their families, as we have had many turning up at reception literally begging for work.
Having said that there is still construction work around, but not of the same quality and you have to watch debtors like a hawk.
It will get better, but not for a while.Today is the first day of the rest of your life0 -
I Really Wish You Well Because You Had The Sense To See This Coming And Tried To Protect Yourself Early..remember That 2grand Stamp Duty Back Will Only Be Two Weeks Off A Months Average Falls..so That New House Will Still Lose 4 Grand A Month.....the 30% Deposit I Wonder How Many Will Have This After 5 Years? If Not It Will Have To Go On The Mortgage And That Will Be Expensive ..It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -

To be fair, I seem to be seeing less and less of it. Denial about the way house prices and the general economy were going seemed to peak around April/May this year but a lot of people do seem to be more realistic now - there's been a sort of snowball effect of bad news which has become hard to ignore, and nobody seems to be taking the PM's 'rescue package' seriously either.
Mind you, apparently there were people right up until Mr Chamberlain made his famous speech on 3 September 1939 who thought there wouldn't be a war...some people will always be in denial.'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0 -
