Please can anyone tell me which might be the best loan for me to get to pay my solicitor's fees.
I need about ten thousand pounds......for over a period of up to one year.

First thought, why the hell is your solicitor charging this much? Sure you can find cheaper elsewhere, and try and settle as much as poss between yourself and the ex. Why are they making a nurse's wage for a year through your misery?0

I'm only saying this because you thanked the previous poster, which leads me to believe that you might be open to talking things through with your ex.....
Have you thought of a DIY divorce? dead simple, cost me less than £200 to arrange for my (now) husband. (Yes I know this sounds strange, he was ill, that's why I did it. Honest, I didn't force him)
EDIT: Sorry, this should say 'dead simple if the 2 parties can agree terms' - that's why I wrote the first sentence above.Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
thanx for your support - yes i know the charges are horrendous. My almost -ex is being a pig - he earns a fortune...but only thanx to me being here for my kids while he's off getting rich. He is a bully (mentally) and knows how to get to me. He has always loved to be in control. Going via a solicitor feels the only way to get the best deal for me and the kids. Any negotiations with the ex have so far ended nowhere. I feel as tho i am living in an episode from coronation street..the one where that barmaid is being controlled by tha bloke of hers
it's so difficult to know who's (not sure that's the correct spelling) advice to take....0 -
This £10,000 will not be for the divorce, it will be for the work in settling the finances. It might also include the divorce work which could be done by the OP themselves but the court fees alone are now £240 (£210 to file and £30 for the decree absolute) so it will not be quite as cheap as eastchristina managed, but still a huge saving.0

Twelve thousand has been spent already by me.....aaagh. all so scarey. Ex decided to stop my money so I had to get an emergency court hearing to get emergency maintenance. I've now got that sorted. Now i'm waiting for him to answer over forty questions about his finances - questions he should have answered at the first court hearing. Ex just seems to be able to lie so easily.
He earns a fortune, and here I am claiming tax credits.....
I'd rather be doing all these things "amicably" ...but ex isn't making that possible0 -
Just double checking pinkpink, you have had an assessment for legal aid done haven't you?0

Doesn't your solicitor offer legal aid??

yes the original plan was for us to talk things thro amicably , but then i discovered that ex had lied to me big-time about our finances. Him and his solicitor (a family "friend") thiought they could talk me into settling things their way...assuming i'd be daft enough to accept what they said. Settling their way meant me not getting any share of his NHS GP pension.....that was one of many things they thought they could hide from me. that's when I got a solicitor of my own.
I agree i am being ripped off, but in the scheme of things I feel i'll be better off seeing as he's such a high earner. I've only worked part time since our first child seventeen years ago. I would never be able to earn the money he earns anyway.

Thanks for reminding me .....i'm off to citizen's advice bureau tomorrow to sort that. Altho the free solicitor advice i had the other day told me that legal aid won't be free. She said they just loan the money over the divorce proceedings bit , then it gets taken from the final settlement. My solicitor is offering a similar scheme
When this whole thing stared in May legal aid didn't seem an option cos we had lots of money. the ex is doing a good job at making sure I'm as poor as possible now....so legal aid should be an option.
you have given me hope that my financial situation may not have to get loads worse.
thankyou
this whole process is so stressful - can't think straight0 -
just off to take my boy to his youth club
i feel more positive about things now...0
