For such a piffling amount in the grand scheme of things? If the vendor can't afford this, how can they afford a mortgage, insurance, bills, repairs etc...?

Don't forget sometimes Vendors are just selling.

They might have financial problems and the last thing they want to pay for on top of legal costs and estate agents costs is a further £400 Home Information Pack!
  • I completed my house purchase less than a month ago. Is there any chance of me getting my stamp duty back given this news??
  • well done, not only has the government helped over inflate the market (keeping everyone at Westminster happy as they have large property portfolios) as well as the party funding from the property developers (yes, its in the news, but we ignore it!) but now this!

a crap deal aimed at the low end (ie new builds outside London) combined with the 30% loan from the government to help developers is a real kick in the face. I live in London and desperately want to get on the property ladder and just as it looked like prices may be going down (as they should) Labour lend a helping hand by making sure we are able to purchase - thus keeping prices high.

My real anger is at just how blatent this has all been for a long time. "we have a new deal to help first time buyers" really means "we continue to support developers and our own massive portfolios.

Somewhere between 0% chance and 0.000000001%, I reckon.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.
  • I've noticed that properties that had asking prices around £185k have dropped to £175k in the last day or two! Check out Property Bee. :)

I'm sure there'll be a whole load more properties dropping their prices to £175k.
  • is this stamp duty exemption also for buy to let properties ?

Yes. Today's Financial Times made the point that investors are in a better position to benefit from the exemption then FTBs, since the investors probably have more cash, so less need to borrow high LTV.
