Whilst there obviously should be a date, from a customer service point of view, if no date is specified then it is fair enough for them to complete the remortgage asap.

As I said earlier, normally the solicitor in the process would check what completion date you require and that would ensure that it was done correctly.
• From a customer service point of view, they should at least ask the question as they do countless other questions on the form to ensure they have the complete picture. IMHO, just because they don't ask doesn't make it acceptable to assume ASAP.

• It's obviously part of their process to ask one group of people the required date & other details re erc fees etc (those who have this section on their forms) but not others.

I would partly agree that there would be no reason not to assume *with no other indication* that it should complete ASAP but a) as we had told them at least twice (verbally) that we wanted it to be at the end of September, and they at no point indicated this wasn't to be the case until the day before (ie too late), I can't see how we could have known they would ignore what we'd discussed on the phone; and
b) they should have told us of the proposed date of completion at some point before the day before - as they knew we were switching from another mortgage I can't see how this can be a 'minor' factor - it's an important part of the whole process! Even when transferring money between different bank accounts you're asked what date you want it to take place - I don't see why this isn't raised on such a large financial undertaking.

Anyway I'm going to stop banging on about it now...
