Sounds like they're fishing. Tell them to get stuffed - although 'bidding' for your own debt is a novel one.....they rely on people not knowing their rights and being scared into paying up.

There's nothing they can do because even having got a ccj, after 6 months of non-enforcement you need to re-apply to the courts to get the bailiffs out, and I doubt they'd have been given the time of day by a judge for a 10 year old debt.
This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

Current Pay Off Target : £1500
  • I beleive there is a few credit report agencies you can get your info from, which will have any outstanding ccj's on them, Expedian and Experian or something along them lines for the names.

I personally got mine from Experian

  • Do I need to check my credit file at my old address where the dedt was made or at my new address?

    Thanks

You need to get your credit reports from all three credit reference agencies, will get you a link. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/credit-rating-credit-score#your
scroll down to Check your credit files fot free.

You put in your address's for the last 6 years and if nothing appears on your reports like a CCJ then you will be fine so then you send them the SB letter :D and tell them to bogoff.

What happens if the address where I am most concerned about having a CCJ listed is an address I lived at longer than 6 years ago?

Experian is right Penny - the others are Equifax and Call Credit. :)

  • Forgot to say....the address where I have been living for the last 6 years will likely show nothng listed at this address. I have lived here for 6 years and never applied for any credit here or even went onto the electoral rooll as I was worried about previous credit.

Just confused as to what it would proove by getting a clear credift file at my current address when it is not the place that I defaulted.

I just dont really understand how these credit files work.

    Hi Piglet

Thanks for asking after my friend.

However, he starts work in a few days so I am not sure what is going to happen then.

Think he'll be ok because again this happened to us - he just needs to keep the council informed of change of circs (SOA etc).

    Fab news!icon7.gif

    Thanks so much everyone

If I write to them then I will have to give them my address and without knowing for sure about the CCJ situation I am worried about doing that.

Still not sure what to do for the best.

    Hiya again!

Your credit file will show if you have a CCJ within the last 6 years and there is a way of checking your file for free - see Martin's debt advice pages.
