Save the Date question

Anyone sending these to their evening guests? Found out the other week that the Heineken Rugby Cup Final is the same weekend as our wedding and so hotel rooms will be less available and more expensive. Many of our guests are coming up from the south of England and whilst I don't mind if they don't come because it's too far, it would be sad if the only reason they couldn't come was because they couldn't get somewhere to stay.

Normally you would only send them to the day guests, as they are the only ones who have to actually save the whole day. Reading on other wedding forums, evening guests receiving a save the date card tend to think they are invited all day, as why would someone tell you to 'save the whole day' then only invite you to the evening part.
It causes confusion unless you state it is evening only, but then difficult if the guest list changes and you want to bump people up from evening to all day when they've already been notified of being evening only in the first place.
But, seeing as there a valid reason for wanting people to know when the wedding is, even if they are evening only guests, maybe send an informal 'save the evening' card and explain about the hotel situation and say book as soon as possible to ensure they will have somewhere to stay.0 -
Good points and kind of along the lines of what I was thinking, especially with the whole 'bumping' people up thing! I might just email evening people informally for now, we weren't planning on having to finalise the guest list for some time, damn sport!Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!
