Damaged Box From Amazon

I recently ordered some Birkenstock sandals from Amazon for my Nieces birthday. the order arrived today but the shoe box is quite badly damaged.
What options do I have and how do I let Amazon know the problem.If they were not for a presnt it would not be a problem but it makes the present look shoddy.
Will I have to send back at my expense? Could I keep the shoes but get some money back?? Any views would be greatly appreciated:mad:

I'm not sure you're going to get anywhere - it's packaging and that's the stuff that protects the product. Almost certainly damaged "in transit" - yes, the courier/distributor is Amazon's contractor and therefore your complaint is with Amazon, but what's to be done?

I have received goods from Amazon where the packaging has been damaged and emailed to say so... they responded with a 15% discount for the goods.Bit of a Florida Fan :j

Thanks for advice. I left my contact number on website and was called back straight away.The sandal is now out of stock and it is the style she wanted.Offered to either post back at Amazon cost or have a 25% partial refund and keep goods.Went for the 25% off and very impressed with Amazon customer service.
