i moved and never got round to updating my details after 3 years i sent an email to god knows who with very vague information they managed to sort it out for me and i suddenly was on the mailing list again :). I had small amount of vouchers in last mailing so i am using the card everytime now. Our medium sized co-op closed in town and they built a small one on edge of town convinient for me at that end of town to pop into most days. Prices can be so much higher than a larger superstore. i know the cranberry juice is 20p more instance so never buy it there.
  • I work for the co operative food in logistics in the south east, There are still a few stores that are basically franchise and there for chosse to opt out of the membership, But by the end of 2009 all co operative business

    co operative food
    funeral care
    shoefayre
    optical express
    travel care etc
Will accept the cards because we are all coming back as 1 company

Co-op has never been ONE company. It used to be hundreds of separate societies, and is now a dozen or so. Southern Co-operatives have voted unanimously AGAINST merging with the Co-operative group. They work closely with them but have also decided not to join it's shared membership scheme at the moment. I will shortly be going for my free day out at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard thanks to Southern Co-operatives.
I do not believe the Co-operative Group really cares about it's members except as a means of promoting the Co-operative Group.
  • A number of the independent co-ops are taking on the national membership card to enable their members to shop in other societies' stores and benefit from accruing dividend. The society I work for - Chelmsford Star Co-operative Society - is one of them.

Unfortunately there are other societies - East of England for example - that are not joining the national membership scheme.

So a joined-up shopping experience is still a while away.
