GISI's Outpouring on Debt, Careers and Life

Options
Hi DFW pals. I hope no-one minds but I feel in desperate need of an outpouring. I don't really know where to start. I'm 25, married and am just feeling a bit overwhelmed at the moment.

Debtwise we owe just over £20k between us, two loans and a small credit card debt. As we both work fulltime at the moment this is totally managable- out Debt Free Date is 2011 which seems a long way off but I'm doing all the extra things I can (eBay, Mystery Shopping, Quidco etc) to bring this forward. However I guess the debt repayments are keeping me tied in a job I don't particularly want to do.

About 4 months ago I gave up a job which I didn't particularly enjoy and which I spent 4 hours a day commuting to and from. I took a £10k pay cut to do this but gained back 20hrs a week so it was worth it from that point of view. However I also gave up all the social circle which came with that job and I haven't yet made up for that with my new colleagues. I went from being a manager among managers doing a desk job to being a retail manager in my own store. I guess being the boss makes it harder to have a social life through work and that makes me sad. Also I'm the only one who is married, has a house to run, so I guess we're just very different! I'm feeling really lonely as I don't know many people where I live, having spent so much time socialising with workmates 2 hours away from home. My 'home' friends are at least an hour away so it's hard to just 'pop round' and see them. To make matters worse my hubby works shifts so it's often just me at home.

Ideally I'd like to cut back on my hours at work, or even go self-employed. My dream would be to run a B&B or tea-rooms, but that isn't possible until we're debt free (even then it will be tough). I'd also like to write a book, and just need to get my butt in gear to do that.... However I think work might be more bearable if I wasn't feeling so lonely generally. How can I meet people round here? I've got it into my head that everyone else has plenty of friends, so doesn't want to meet me. Silly, I know but I'm just not sure where to start...

Sorry for the self-indulgent ramblings, but can anyone give me some DFW thoughts on how grown ups can make friends.....wow that sounds sad:rolleyes: .

Thank you for letting me indulge myself...I feel better for off-loading.
