This is being offered from Tesco and I was shocked when I rang up to get it. there are no catches at all. No bank details to give them, just name and address and regularity of how often you visit the dentist. They even cancel it after 12 months automatically.
It seems Tesco also offered this last year-I've used Martin's write up of the offer from last year below to explain more- amended as necessary for this years offer.
What's it about?
Tesco is giving away free £1,000 Dental Accident insurance cover to anyone over 18. This isn't the same as dental cover; it only has a limited use, yet because it's free everyone should grab it as it's a good free year's supplement to NHS cover.
IMPORTANT. This is not the same as dental insurance
Tesco's Dental Accident policy covers you for up to four claims of £250 a year for private dental treatment if you've had an accident - for example falling and breaking a tooth. It doesn't cover you for any type of normal treatment such as having tooth decay.
If you want that (and sadly with finding an NHS dentist so difficult, many have no choice) then read the full Cheapest Dental Insurance article.
Why is Tesco doing this?
Tesco has its own paid dental cover plan; and as you need to phone to get this, undoubtedly it will try and flog you that at the same time-I didn't get any spiel about it myself.
Yet to be fair to Tesco, it will give you this by itself no problem; and doesn't request any payment details - so there's no risk it'll try to charge you for it next year.
How do I get it?
Ring 0845 600 63 45 and ask for your free dental accident cover. See one of the keen posters below for the 0800 equivalent
