Free Professionally created Website and designs

Hi

Came across this company (www.muckycow.co.uk) when I was looking for someone to create a website for my business and I've got one for FREE!

It looks like they are a new business who are looking for new business(!) - if you click on the SPECIAL OFFERS section on the home page they are offering to create a website for you for FREE or they do logo design or rebranding (not sure what that is!) if you want it.

They are working on mine now and their communication has been excellent - even for a relative know nothing like me! So thought I would let all MSErs know.

Hope its useful for someone!

  • Thanks jbanks

I contacted them this morning and spoke to someone later today; seem really genuine and understandable! The offer of a free website is good although I'm also not sure what rebranding is - if anyone can help????

Seems even someone with a name like mine may join the 21st century!!

  • Not being funny, but don't care too much for the design of their own website!. Not exactly professional looking (others may disagree, but all entitled to an opinion, including me).

Thanks to OP though, excellent post, good work.

Yes but some of us can't!
  • Whois indicates that based in residential street. Looks like a one-man (or of course one-woman) band just starting out.

Wish them all the very best, hope they quickly build up a portfolio and learn/develop their skills from each one as they go.

I'm with Browntoa, first impressions count and their website is seriously lacking in detail. Don't seem qualified as professional, but stand to be corrected (should be on the site). But at least the price is right, good luck to them.

n.b. Personal websites only, not business.

I would suggest people also give Microsoft live a look as better free alternative (others also exist).

Good post by the OP though.

Hi - will try Microsoft - only just getting into all these things and all advice gratefully recieved!!! - and yes - also thanks to original poster.
  • Re-branding is if you have a site with some logo's etc they will re-brand in other words take a site and make it look different.

As for the peeps who offer this as a freebie good on them for getting in the buisness I agree they would be better to drop the fancy concertina menu stuff as it only serves to bug a lot of people and need to consider accessability. Other than that good luck.. I do web sites and I'm more functional than design orientated. I stick to the Keep It Simple rule and while the sites don't always look that glam they perform the task intended. That's really all you need to do.

hi i did this yesterday and got a call today and they have agreed to do the one page to promote my charity night... from what i can understand the website will be uploaded onto their server and probably be under their web address like muckycow.co.uk/mypage but hey its free so i cant complain as i dont have the time to do one myself!

  • Hi couple of things:

Thanks to Mosh111 for explaining rebranding to an old(ish) man! Also to Browntoa - I'd be really interested in seeing some of your websites so I can compare what is a good website as you said yours are much better. I can then compare theirs to yours.

also Not sure if Kim is correct in her last post, I spoke to them yesterday and recieved the email to clarify what they said and this is what I recieved: From the conversation they said they would show me my site on the MuckyCow pages and then its mine to do with what I want:

" . . .the offer is as follows; we will design a website for you for FREE. The reason it’s free is that we are a new business and we want to create a Portfolio which will showcase what we are capable of. We could create fictitious sites but felt it would be better to help people who may need or want their own site.

We will create the site for you (1 – 4 pages) in line with your specifications; we will show you the site on our pages until you are happy with the final product. When you are 100% satisfied we will then send you the files so you can do with them what you like (all this costs you NOTHING!).

If you want to put them on a free web hosting site you are free to do so (as we would have sent you the files) or if you wanted it hosted with a suitable domain name, e.g., https://www.YourName.co.uk then it would cost you approx. £5-£10 for the name (for 2 years) and approx. £20 - £30 to have it hosted for a year (you only pay for the domain once and not annually). You would be free to search the market and do this yourself (as mentioned we would have sent you the files) or we could do that for you.

If we do it for you, the only additional cost would be £5 to cover the admin/credit card costs but we would then allow you to update the website for free with any additional amendments for the first 6 months (on the basis of one set of changes per week for 6 months).

If you wanted us to arrange this for you we would send you copies of all the receipts we have as we are not in the business to rip you off and we would charge you whatever the receipts are + the aforementioned £5 (hence the approximates earlier in this email); we would of course let you know the prices beforehand and we would search the market to find the cheapest reputable and reliable hosting company available.

The advantages of having your own domain name, e.g., https://www.YourName.co.uk is that if you use a free hosting company then you would have a web address of https://www.theircompanyfirst.co.uk/yourname which is not (in our opinion) very professional nor does it look very good! However if it is for promotional reasons these can be useful sites; conversely if you would want people to search and find the site then they would be unlikely to find it on a free host where your pages are just the extension part after their domain name!

If you are looking for rebranding or logo generation this again is free and we will send you the files which you again can do what you like with!

I appreciate you may have lots of questions; please feel free to email them to us thecowshed@muckycow.co.uk or call us and we will answer them to the best of our ability.

Hope this helps (I learnt to copy and paste and change colours - with a little help from my grandson!!!!!!!)

  • Be very very careful - if the contract you get says you don't own the copyright for the domain, design and content you will probably find yourself in schtum if you a.) try and move everything at some point in the future or b.) try to use anything offa the website elsewhere even if you wrote it.
