Emergency - Making chutney and jars gone awol!

OK, so I know I should have dug out the jars before I started chopping and cooking, but I was in the mood for chopping and cooking and knew exactly where the jars were... plenty of time to sterilise them whilst the chutney was reducing.
Except the chutney is reducing and I've turned the house and the shed and the garage upside down looking for the jars and they are nowhere to be seen.
What will happen if I bottle the chutney when it's gone cool?
Please help... I've got my entire tomato crop simmering in that pan

sorry curv, don't really know if this is the correct thing to do, but i have in the past stopped cooking and resumed the next day, IYKWIM. so if recipe says simmer for 90 mins, i would do 60 today and about 30 tomorrow, by which time you may have A) found jars, or
begged, borrowed or stolen some off neighbours, friends, recycle bins....;)
good luck......:D:DOf all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.....

I've made jam before then realised that I didn't have jars and I bunged it all into a pyrex dish and jarred it up the next day. I did keep it in the fridge while I was jar-less.
I suppose it depends how much you are making. I only do two jars at a time so it was used up quickly enough but I would be more concerned if I was making 10 jars to store over the coming year.0 -
I'm making about 12 jars... 8 of which are earmarked for Christmas presentssunflower76 wrote: »I would be more concerned if I was making 10 jars to store over the coming year.

What chutney are you making curv? Just being nosy ! lol
I would have done what cannylass suggested too rather than cooking it all in one go and letting it cool before putting in the jars.:jWeight loss to date 1st 11.5lb :j0 -
