Tesco changing Wording at express checkouts.

Alot of people on here have said that the express (basket) checkouts at Tesco should say 10 item or fewer instead of 10 items or less. Their now changing the signs to "up to 10 items".

Partially. I disagree with the article insofar that the correct grammar is '10 items or fewer' and the example cannot be compared with the 'six weeks or less' example because the former refers to 10 discrete items and the latter to a continuous period of time. But it is correct in saying that 'up to 10 items' is even worse than '...or less' because whilst it is grammatically correct, it introduces an ambiguity, namely whether the 'up to' includes or excludes 10 or more items.
What, I wonder, is wrong with 'No more than 10 items'? I expect it's too negative for mouthbreathing marketing types.0 -
