This is great, I've done my 3 children, printed them off and am going to frame them. Its unusual and with a bit of effort looks fab!Auntie Savingsgirl 24/9/06 :j0

But, how do we know there are not two 15-year olds in Shanghai laughing their heads off at all these think westerners printing out swear words and giving them to their kids?

Just as well that most of us Westerners can't read chinese writing then isn't it
Anyway, out of curiosity, I put in the name I supposedly have tattooed on my back in chinese. To my relief it's exactly the same as the one on the website."There are no pockets in a shroud..."0 -
how do u no it aint translating into a random swearword?0

I have a tattoo, which has 4 names in chinese (my husband and kids).
A friend of mine who is chinese translated it for me (oh, the relief I felt
), as did a chinese checkout operator in Sainsburys one day!
The names on this site however, are completely different to what I have!
It may just be written in a different dialect, but I wouldn't advise anyone to get it tattooed on (for instance) unless it's been verified first (just in case)!

I know what my name is in Chinese (might have something to with the fact that I am Chinese
) and this site doesn't translate it "correctly"! I say "correctly" because a direct translation of a western name is just a phonetic translation so there are numerous possibilities, all with different meanings.
This reminds me....I was in a tattoo shop last weekend with DH's daughter as she was wanting to get a new lip stud.... I was having a look at the tattoos available and there was a big list of Chinese characters with words such: woman, moon, love etc and they were WRONG!!!! Can't recall all of them but they had "moon" translated as "sky", for example. Underneath was a little disclaimer saying that once you were tattooed, he could not be held liable if there were any errors in translation. :eek:I have the mind of a criminal genius. What a silly con job - I totally agree with Noozan (above). If you want a chinese name, you need to be given one, simple as that. And the ones which are from this website and phonetic translations. Not always a true translation. And no, whoever says that it may be translated in a different dialect. thats wrong. You only get written chinese in one way, like you get English written in one way. You only get different chinese SPOKEN dialects like english have different spoken accents.
Make sure you know what you are getting tattoed on yourself if you are getting tattos (and I dont mean as the tattoo artist!), ask a chinese friend you trust. I know people that have been tricked with false silly names!
I dont really see the point in getting your name translated in Chinese, its just the same as me getting my name translated in Latin or Hebrew!
A pointless website for us "foreigners".Lovin Boots and other bargainous places!0 -

Thats your opinion which is fair enough but I enjoyed printing this off for my children and it looks fab! If it is completely incorrect then noone who comes to my home will know. Its just a bit of fun and a nice freebie.Auntie Savingsgirl 24/9/06 :j0
