Remortage complete how long for rebate?

Wehave just sucessfully remortgage and the mortage went through half way through the month.
On our previous mortgage I am sure we paid in advance - but regardless I think we should receive some money back from them as in effect we paid for a whole month and only borrowed for half of it.
I called them to discuss after completion to be told they can take 30 days to confirm!I couldnt speak to anyone in that specific department as they dont take calls. I said this seemed a very long time.
Please can anyone give me some advise?
