Hi,
I have read a bit on the boards about Lowell and their distinctly bullish tactics, but would appreciate some advice as I have recieved an odd letter from them. I hope someone will be able to she some light on this....
Around July last year I recieved a collection notice from 1st Credit demanding payment on a loan the said I had had. In their notices it stated that their records showed that at some point I had lived at an address that I most definately had never lived at (it was actually the address of the bank branch I had held accounts at many years previously). I sent them a letter asking for a copy of my credit agreement with £1, and did not hear anything further from them.
I moved to London this time last year, and for the first time in my life, my credit rating is out of the 'Poor' category. Today, however, I recieved a letter from Lowell:
"We are writing to you with regards to the address outlined above which was supplied to us by Experian the UK's largest Credit Reference Agency.
Experian hold information on over 43 million UK consumers on their database, information including consumers current and previous address details.
They have informed us that you previously resided at [the address that 1st Credit also referred to me staying at] and we need to validate this information.
It would be appreciated if you would contact us immediately on the telephone number provided below to confirm the information supplied to us as being correct and factual.........."
Now, apart from the fact that I never lived at the address mentioned, what worries me is that this will be the start of some harassment that I just don't need just now. I do not have any outstanding debt, and an finally on an even keel money-wise. Should I call them to state that I never lived at that address, and ask them to leave me alone, or should I just ignore the letter and hope they lose interest?
Advice would be appreciated

Hi
I'm no expert on this but I wouldn't phone them. I'd write to them instead. They will probably try and bully you into paying money if you call them. Sounds like they could be fishing.
Good luck.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free
Mortgage free since 20140 -
I don't have any debt outstanding either but this week have had 2 letters of 2 diffrent dca asking for money and i know i don't owe anybody anything, i have just returned them as not at this address, i know i don't owe so i'm not going to pay !
So my advice is don't phone, don't acknowledge them, ignore it and send it back. They are phishing.
Hope this is in agreement with others ?Proud to be dealing with my debts

Hello Dread,
I'd suggest you get a copy of your credit report from Experian - i) to check the story that it was Experian who passed on the mythical address you never lived at, and ii) if that address is on your credit file, it ususally shows which creditor provided that information. That will enable you to challenge the entry with Experian and get it removed.
Martin Lewis wrote a really good article about credit reference agencies, including a way of getting online access free of charge!

Thanks Rabbit,
I have actually checked my Experian report, and it states my addresses correctly with no mention of the one they are suggesting I stayed at.
Would they have access through Experian to info on me that I wouldn't have?
It's very odd.
