Credit File not accurate. How to get it changed...?

As part of my new, organised, good intentioned self, I got a copy of my credit report for the first time ever.

Not as bad as expected, but there is a problem. One account is showing up as a default with £1500 remaining on it. This was a Lloyds TSB Mastercard which was passed on to Legal & Trade DCA a couple of years ago. I paid them monthly for over a year and then was offered a settlement figure which I accepted and paid. I've never heard from either them or Lloyds since.

I called Legal and Trade (now IQOR, apparently! ) today and they say there is a note saying they are no longer dealing with my account, but they don't have the reason why. They say it's not up to them to update my credit file, but rather Lloyds'. I called Lloyds, who say they have no record of me having been a customer (I'm damn sure they'd find a record if I still owed them money!). The lady I spoke to couldn't help and said that I'll need to call back on Monday to speak to someone who can.

Rather worryingly, Legal & Trade also told me that it's not advisable to accept a settlement figure if you plan to apply for a mortgage, for example, as it doesn't reflect well on your credit rating as a full repayment would. IF this is true, no-one from L&T told me this at the time.

The offer of a settlement figure was made over the phone, and I dont remember if I received a letter from L&T after I paid them off to confirm the account would be closed (stupid, I know. Consider the lesson learned!)

What are the chances of this being sorted out easily?

Its down to Lloyds TSB to sort your credit file as it was them who sold the debt and should of updated your credit file.

Write them a letter explaining you want them to update your credit file
  • Thanks for that. :) Called back today and was told I need to call back between 9 and 5 (some people work!!! ) but I only work a half day on Tuesdays so I'll call tomorrow and see what they're saying, and ask for an address to write to.
