I got a letter from nationwide yesterday saying I could keep my account open as the OR has no interrest in it?
Would you trust them? I have a co-op one now anyway!

Hi LG
Yes, i'd trust them (well as far as i'd trust any bank;) ) maybe keep a quid in it to keep it running and see what happens.
They did 'used' to be BR friendly but then changed. Maybe they have had second thoughts. The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter

I phoned Nationwide (my current bank) to tell them about my forthcoming bankruptcy. I asked what would happen to my account, I was told that they (the bank) would freeze it. I was given a fax number to give to my OR so they can get the ok to unfreeze my account.
I have a Basic Flex Account with a Cash card with no cheque book or overdraft facilities.0 -
I think Nationwide are still fairly BR friendly (though not guaranteed) if you have had the account for quite a while.
Their change of policy seems to be mainly directed at those who are opening an account specifically for BR, whether before or after you do it.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Not sure if this is anything which has been discussed on here before, but Nationwide have just started printing a couple of lines of text on their Notice of Charges that comes with your statement giving the contact numbers for the National debt advice charities - this would possibly tie in with comments above about them having a change of attitude? A good initiative on their part, anyway.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

thanks for your question. I logged onto the site to ask. I have a nationwide flex (basic bank account, no debit card / cheque yadda yadda) but i need to open a natwest basic account this week for its direct debit facility. (Easier than co-op for me in terms of access) I was worried i was exhausting my options considering i thought all accounts would be frozen! (barclays are one of my creditors and i would like to not go back to them, purely bc i met some a******* along the way)
However, having seen your post, I guess theres a change nationwide will keep my account open. (Ive had it for about a year and never had any problems - it doesnt allow u to (no direct debits etc)
Anyone had any experience on natwest... do they often freeze the account? Also does the co-op account (im keeping as my last option post-BR) allow direct debits and / or have a debit card?
All advice much appreciated!Debts incurred through illness and homelessness, starting a degree in September, going bankrupt in November and having a well deserved fresh start in January 2009! Bring on the new year! Interested in thrifty living, and if its green all the better for it! xxx0 -

Natwest will freeze your account and tell you to go away.
The Co-op Cashminder is brilliant. You get DD's. SO's, telephone and internet banking and an electron card. You can use any cashpoint and if you need to deposit money then you can do so at any post office. All in all a brilliant account.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0
