Economy at 60-year low, says Darling. And it will get worse

Do not imagine for one minute that things would have been different under a Tory Government.
The only difference would have been that the rich would be even richer, the poor even poorer, schools tattier, hospitals older, roads bumpier, unemployment higher, my big telly smaller and interest rates much higher.

Oh for goodness sake! Thatcher and her brood ripped into whole areas of society. Oh yea, great, she wanted the mines closed and what did she offer to the poor beggers that were left jobless. Another load of tut when she let lending rip and called it the ``economic revolution``. I could weep when I think of the great stuff that the real Labour party brought to this country. The days when they truely represented something.
I come from a background of Labour party activists. Spanning over nearly 100 years. As a family we were proud of the welfare reforms they made.
I resigned many years ago when I saw the party had changed.
Folks, as my dear late father used to say, we live 3 score years and ten and what you get after that is on borrowed time. It`s such a short space of time.0 -

I have spent all summer holidays for the past three years working on schools and they are all extremely tatty.
over the last ten years no money has been spent on them
Now the government is carrying out a make do and mend program when it should be a demolish and rebuild program.0 -

Do you think that all politicians have only two modes of operation? ie: all labour politicians behave in the same way and all conservative policiticians behave in the same way?Happy chappy0 -

She did it out of spite. Hatred for the working class. As bad as the worst racist.tomstickland wrote: »Do you think that all politicians have only two modes of operation? ie: all labour politicians behave in the same way and all conservative policiticians behave in the same way?
No, they have just one mode of operation. Everything that they do, they do for themselves.

Belgrano, Brighton, Maze prison, Bobby Sands, Battle of Orgreave, Poll Tax, Section 28, Blair Peach, Stand Down Margaret.
All politicans are evil. But some are more evil than others.0 -
I have always thought of New Labour as 'Tory Lite' - similar policies to the Major Tories, with the sharp edges taken off. If the Conservatives had been in power I reckon we would be in a very similar position. The top 10% would be a little richer, the bottom 10% would be a little poor. Perhaps a little less spent on public infrastructure.
Public debt would be similar to within a couple of percentage points.
Unfortunately I have absolutely now condidence in Cameron. A PR buffoon.
Vince Cable impresses me most at the moment.0 -
Thinking a bit more - does anyone remember how bad things were in '85 ? I remember the pound was worth about $1 and interest rates were 12%. 3 million on the dole. Will things get worse than that?0

The point I was making though is that things were moving on, and digging coal out of the ground was at that time not a viable business.Happy chappy0
