Sell Your Snaps - Earn extra

Options
I have just joined so am no expert about this site. I read about it in Company magazine whilst on holiday.
How It Works
Fotolia is a website that allows you to upload images and sell to people.
Website says -
Fotolia offers low-priced, royalty free images using our credit system (1 credit = £0.57). A member can buy credits and download our images at the inexpensive rate of just £0.57 (1 credit). Contributors who sell images will be paid a commission depending on the type of license that is purchased. The average commission is around 40%.

How you get paid
Website Says -
Each time one of your images is sold on Fotolia, you get a commission added to your Fotolia account in real time. You can cash out this money at any time, provided you have a minimum of 50 Credits in your account, via Paypal or Moneybookers. The commission amount depends on the exclusivity given to Fotolia for selling this image and it depends on your ranking. This commission is between 33% and 64% of the sales price.

I am sorry that I cannot give anything more but I am testing the site but I thought I should let you all know!!!

  • I've no idea either how good this site is, I'll give it a try! Just thought I'd add the uk link. http://en.fotolia.com/Info/HowToSell
:T for bringing it to my attention!
  • I bought from Fotolia the website is great, and I found the greatest chameleon pictures for my makeup website. I checked to join as well but I don't take great pics, but it sure is a good idea I think, after all, if your photos are just there on your hard drive, and you are happy for other people to use them, then why not make a few quid out of them ?
  • Hi,

Fotolia is a stock photo site. It's free to join but be careful to read all the terms and conditions when you sign up. There is a clause in there about exclusivity, basically meaning you cannot sell any photo that is on folotlia anywhere else (its a bit more complex than that but that's the basics of it)

It is not easy to get photo's approved either and you won't make masses of cash unless you are very good and know about "stock" photo's. It's not the sort of place to upload your holiday snaps and expect to sell them.

Having said that, if your a talented amateur photographer, can think creatively and have the time to spend, it's an excellent way to make a wee bit extra cash.

There are other stock photo's sites not least "istockphotos" that you can register on but be prepared for rejection! You will get far more photos rejected than you will have approved.

You also need to be clever with tags so that people will find your work amongst the thousands of others on there.

Another excellent site is Redbubble, again don't expect to make much money, but its good fun and a great way to get your artwork seen. http://www.redbubble.com/people/kirkart - my site on redbubble.

I know that some of my US online mates take photos of shops in their local area and have to add details about opening times etc and get paid for it by Google but don't know if this is for UK residents or not.

Thanks for the info on Red Bubble - not heard of that one before. I have heard of (and used) istockphoto but think I only made about 2 quid in 2 years on there so far. :) (About 50c (30p) every time one of your photos is used). As you said a lot are rejected and it helps to browse the most poular ones to see what people are looking for.
