Can we stall the start date of a new 0% CC?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience of this?

DH has just applied for and been accepted for a 0% 15 months Virgin CC, this is great because they allow 'super balance transfers' e.g. cash transfers at 0%, so we are going to move a big chunk of our scary huge OD onto the 0% card.

The trouble is we can't really afford to do this until we have cleared the current 0% card (balance £500) and we are doing all we can to clear this by Feb when the 0% runs out. This should leave us with 9 or 10 months 0% on the virgin card and we could at this point move some of the OD over and pay the monthly payment from the money we have been paying to 0% card no 1.

I was wondering if DH could ask Virgin to stall the card opening date until Jan/Feb, so that we could maximise the int free term, what do you think the chances of them saying yes are??

I have never been able to BUT:
I phoned up Capital 1 to ask about a BT deal recently, they said the old offer had 6 weeks to run was I interested? :rotfl: :rotfl:
When I said no thanks I'll go elsewhere (no idea at that point) they said:
Was I interested in the new-about-to-be-offered deal was one year starting there and then?, and I was, so delighted to sign up to that. :D:D

If you play it cool they sometimes bring better deals out of the woodwork.
    Can you manage until Feb?
  • Thanks OliveOyl, that is certainly worth remembering. We haven't had the card yet and I was thinking if he called them now, they might just be willing to start the rate in Jan/Feb 09. We can manage fine until then, but we can't afford to be repaying the current CC that is on 0% and do a balance transfer to the new one. Unfortunately at the mo we are paying a very low amount off of the OD and we would have to keep paying this amount even if we did balance transfer part of the balance, so if we did it now it would increase our outgoings monthly and we just cannot afford that.

Thanks for your help.... worst case scenario is still make the most of the 9 or 10 months in Feb, so not a huge big deal.
