Digital Camera - which Canon

I want to buy a new digicam. I have decided on Canon but that is as far as this decision has got.
I will be spending in the region of £200/250.
I want small but not minute. I have shortlisted the following and would be delighted to hear your comments (especially if you have any of them!!)
1. A620 - 7.1 mgpixels 4 x optical zoom AA batteries - about £225
2. A610 - 5.0 mgpixels 4 x optical zoom AA batteries - about £194
3. Ixus 50 - 5 mgpixels 3 x optical zoom rechargeables - about £200
4. Ixus 700 - 7.1 mgpixels 3 x optical zoom rechargeables - about 270
5. Ixus 55 - same as 50 but with slightly larger screen - £220
The basic difference that I can see is that the 'A' range are larger, and have a curved easy holding side. The Ixus are tiny and I wonder if they are too small. Despite going into a camera shop I still cannot make up my mind. Any of your help would be great..............

The A ranges are budget models and use AA batteries. These are bulkier and have less battery life than the rechargeable Li-ion ones. For your budget of £200+ you should avoid these.
The Ixus 50 was a huge seller and has only been replaced by the Ixus 55 in the last few months. It's small, but has a good build quality and produces excellent photos. For your budget this would be a good choice.
The Ixus 700 has a massive 7.1MP sensor, but this is only really necessary if you intend to do a lot of 'zooming in' and cropping of your pictures or intend to make poster sized enlargements. For straight forward snaps, this feature is not going to make a substantial difference, apart from eating up space on your memory card!0 -
i 've just bought the Canon ixus izoom at pixmania it is a newish model and really small. I have just replaced a fuji camera that takes AA batteries...never again. I was constantly recharging them and and they were running out at the wrong time. The izoom has similar spec to the ixus 55 but it comes with a cradle to keep it in next to the computer.0
