Credit check help!

Ok, today has been an incredibly frustrating day.

I have been declined credit for a mobile phone contract with o2 and no-one can tell me why. I have a perfect credit history, two credit cards and a mortgage (as well as a current mobile contract with 3) so I was baffled.

This was with o2, who tell me they do their credit checks with Equifax. I paid £15 for a credit score from Equifax, which rated me at 520 (anything above 475 is deemed excellent).

I have no idea what to do about this. Equifax tell me there is nothing to worry about yet o2 won't give me credit and say they don't get reasons why people fail, just a yes or no decision. Aside from this inconvenience I have to remortgage in a few months and worried this may stop me from doing so.

It's just so frustrating, "computer says no" but no-one can tell me why or what I can do about it.

Does anyone have any advice on what I can do to sort this out?

  • Hi!

Do you live in a flat

The reason I ask is because I do and I know that my address varies depending on who holds it (iykwim).

If dh or I have been declined for a loan or CC in the past I have found that by phoning customer services and talking it through with them they can try a couple of different address variations and normally one of them go through.

If you live in a new build house and have had it named then maybe by giving the number of your house instead it may work?

Sorry if neither of these situations apply and I hope you manage to get it sorted.
