Moorcroft Debt Collector Agents

I was visited today by a debt collecdtor agent who works for Moorcroft re an Egg Loan. I've been dealing with Moorcroft direct re another debt concerning a credit card from Egg. A couple of years ago I moved home and informed all companies of my new address, when I took over my own dmp in April I phoned Moorcroft and asked them if they had any other accounts on their books relating to me the answer was no they only had my CC. Today when I phoned them re their home agent they told me that I do have an outstanding account from an Egg loan of over £8k and that they have sent me several letters to my old address, which I've never received. I have offered to pay them a monthly amount by standing order which is the same set up as my CC but they have refused and said I need to deal with the agent from now on. Does anyone know anything about these agents and whether a standing order can be set up with them and what sort of amount can I offer them?

  • Hi,
I had an agent come to the door a couple of years ago about a CC account (it wasn't moorcroft though). I told him the max I could pay was £20, and to take that or get nothing. He accepted it, and I then said that I wanted to pay by DD because I didn't want him at the door everything, and he arranged for a DD mandate to be sent out to me. He said as long as I kept up with the DD he wouldn't appear at the door again - and he didnt.
Hope it works out okay for you! My advice would be to be firm and don't be forced into offering more than you can afford!
  • Coreen, this "new debt" which Moorcroft are claiming you owe, were you aware of that before? If not, have you asked for any evidence from them? It seems odd they didn't mention it in April?

i'm dealing with moorcrafty at the mo'. they are real w*nkers and i find their telephone manner really aggresive. write to them and ask for all communications in writing. by the way... don't answer the door. if u must speak to him tell him u want everything in writing. if he's just a 'agent' he has no right whatsoever speaking to you. he can't take your things, he can demand money but you don't have to give it to him and there not a damn thing he can do about it.
do what i do sweets, keep the door locked and unless you're expecting someone at your house don't answer the door.

    Hi. :)

You had two threads asking the same question, so I've merged them together to make it easier to follow any advice.

Before you do anything else, have you checked your credit records to see how old this debt is? It may well be statute barred and if it is you do not have to pay anything. Moorcroft have loads of statute barred debts.
