Global Typists.

Options
Hi I seen an ad on Gumtree saying that you could make money by inputing data for companies from your own home and make between £150-£250 a week for a few hours work each day,so I sent them an email and this is the reply I got below, was just wondering if anyone had heard of this company before and is it a scam as they ask for a £9.99 fee to cover their costs, any info would be much appreciated.

Hello,

"Earn money by using your typing skills to your advantage! A Data Entry
Processer/Home Typist position requires that you have a reliable computer
with constant internet access and capabilities, a valid E-mail account,
basic internet knowledge, and minimal typing skills.

You must also be able to conduct yourself in a professional manner. This
includes having excellent grammar and spelling when communicating with
clients via E-mail. the time saved not having to set up your own webpage
means you can concentrate on making money, which will all be for yourself,
there is no middle-man involved.

Aswell as the above requirements, you MUST be able to follow instructions
closely and completely! All your contact is via E-mail, so you will not be
required to call anyone at anytime. This allows you to work whichever hours
are most convenient for you (days, night, or weekends). You will be
processing applications, as well as filling out forms for in specific
company databases (this tends to be tedious at times, so please be surethat
you have the patience to do so before proceeding).

This is why you'll need to have basic internet knowledge, though the
training provided will give you step-by-step instructions on how
to perform these tasks properly.

There are no ''down-times'' with this position, so you will have constant
flow of work to complete. THIS IS NOT A GET RICH QUICK SCHEME so if that
is what you are looking for please do not pursue this opportunity.

You will be paid £10.00 for each application completed. The amount of
money you make each week is entirely upto you, and how much time and effort
you are willing to put in this position also.

The average person makes £200 - £400 each week

When you have been accepted as a Data Entry Clerk/Home Typist, you are
considered an independent Contractor. This means that your taxes will not
be taken out: therefore, you will not be provided with any tax forms. THIS
IS ENTIRELY YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. The training provided will give more
information about what to do with your taxes.

You will recieve your pay through PayPal or whichever online payment
service you require. When an application is completed £10.00 will be
credited to your PayPal account, which can be withdrawn into your bank
account any time. Please note PayPal charge a very small fee for each
transaction you recieve, however, if you leave money in PayPal until the
balance reaches over £50.00. There will be no Charges.

You can read about the security policies at www.paypal.com

There is a one-time non-refundable fee for the training package of £9.99

We must accept this fee to cover training costs, processing fees, as well as
to ensure that only seriuos applicants apply. This is a non-refundable fee, so
be sure that youunderstand what you are doing before sending in your
payment for training materials.

This fee will not be waived for anyone, and cannot be deducted from your
first pay. this is becauseif you do not process applications, you will not have
a first pay, and we will have already taken the time to set you up, and train
you.

You will need a word processing program in order to perform this position
successfully (MS Word, Works, Notepad, etc.)

Most applicants typically complete the training within 24 hours or less.
However, you can do this at your leisure. Keep in mind that the sooner you
go through the training materials, the sooner you will start earning money.

You will be able at any time to contact us via E-mail after you have
recieved your training materials.

If you are serious about this position, meet all the requirements, and are
responsible enough to work from home, then please contact me via E-mail
and i will inform you of the cost of the training package, and how to set up
a PayPal account to send the fee (if you do not already have an account).
If you are still serious, and are willing to put forth some time and effort,
then please send a blank E-mail to the address below with the word
'PAYMENT' in the subject box. I will then send you instructions on how to
pay your one time fee after which you will be E-mailed your training
materials and you can start work immediately.

Yours Sincerely
Will Edmonds

I started out thinking that it was legitimate, but a minor sense of unease had taken hold by the end.
Why do they need £10 to send you an email explaining what to do?

This thing is so good that 100s of people are making £400 per week for a few hours per day. If it was that good then loads of people would know about it.

My guess is that the £10 fee is how they make all their money.

Maybe it's a pyramid scheme whereby you earn £10 for every training package that's completed?

Hopfully someone could sacrifice £10 to find out.

    This is interesting:
Perhaps the oldest of all these is the promise of making money stuffing envelopes. Apply, and you'll be asked to pay a registration fee. In return you receive advice on placing a similar ad to recruit others. It's a pyramid scheme, and a scam. Do it and you can find yourself prosecuted for fraud.

    It won't be me!

It will either be a case of your typing never being good enough to meet their standards, or the work involves getting others to send in £10.

Edit: Just skimmed through the ad. The only bit you need to read is this
When an application is completed £10.00 will be
    credited to your PayPal account

In the paragraph above the paypal link. In other words, you get paid £10 for every applicant you sign up. All you will get for your tenner is instructions to post a similar ad and people will send you a tenner, you then send them instructions to place their own ads.

If you want to be a cult (sorry, couldn't find the letter "n" on my keyboard so had to substitue the letter "l") and try this scheme then save yourself a tenner and just copy the ad below and make up your own instructions. You'll still be a cult, but at least the other cult won't get a tenner.
