scared - moorcroft called at house....

just got back from shopping and my daughter has told me a man called and gave her an envelope for me....she said he asked if i lived here - not thinking owt my daughter (shes 19) said yes - he then asked if i worked - my daughter said no but why? ...he then gave her the letter to give to me and said to her to tell me to call him anytime and that i can speak to him in confidence if i want....she also said he commented me on my nice garden.......

am worried now - surely he shouldnt be calling at my property and surely he shouldntve asked my daughter or anyone anything about me....she never told him she was my daughter either.....and surely he shouldntve handed the letter to anyone other than me?

this is a debt for value catalogue that i cca on 1.8.07 and have had letters admitting no cca exists for this debt....at one time i was told all collection activity would cease....the last communication from moorcroft was on 30.8.8 when they once again admitted no credit agreement existed but they also asked for payment.....i have also had reliable collections try for this debt and midas legal services were trying to collect at same time as moorcroft......i have kept all communications....

so - should i be scared? what should i do next?

thanks all.

I'm not an expert, or even slightly clued up on this, but it must be worrying for you - hope you get it sorted !

Funnily enough though my doorbell went the other week and some guy was looking for my neighbour (flats), he said he was from Scottish Power, asking whether she worked, what kind of car she drove etc. I felt really uncomfortable about this and just said that I didn't know her or what she did (although I do really). He asked if he could post a letter through a door, what could I say? I said yes but made sure he left the building straight after.

tell them to bog off. Seriously. Unless there is a CCJ in place, they have NO rights and have NO powers what so ever - and they know it.

They are trying it on. If he returns, tell him that the debt is unenforceable, that you will not deal with him again and tell him to go away.

    Hi

if there is no CCA and they are still chasing you for this debt, then they are breaking the OFT rules.

Time to report them to the OFT, Trading Standards and Consumer Credit Association.

If he referred in any way to your debt, or that he was a debt collector, then add the Information Commisioner.

If there is no CCA and you've gone through the correct procedure, I wouldn't contact them again - they know the debt is unenforceable. If he turns up again, just tell him to go away and not to come back.

I can't think of any rules he has broken with the first visit, it's naughty asking questions, but they all do it and I guess there are no rules about asking about people?
