Import Duty from Australia

I really want some Ugg boots atm, but i really dont want to spend £150 in the shops. I can purchase them direct from Australia for About £80 delivered. does anyone know whether I will be liable for any kind of Import Tax purchases of footwear from Australia, or will it all depend on what it says on the customs label.

I ask this, because there is an online store in the UK that can deliver them for £110, so if Import tax was going to be like £30, I may as well buy them from here.

Hope someone can help me, I would really like to purchase my boots soon :rolleyes:

anything valued at more than £18 is liable for VAT @ 17.5% & customs duty on top of that. it's bit of a lottery whether your parcel is picked out for inspection, you might get lucky, but on the other hand you might end up paying as much as the UK price

some overseas sellers mark down the price of the goods on the declaration label, so they're below the £18 threshold. & others mark the goods as a gift, which it seems is not liable for taxes & duties. but you'd need to make absolutely sure they'd do it before ordering

personally I'd go for the £110 delivered option, then you're sure of what you're paying, no nasty surprises

hmm, thats what i was thinking. i;ve emailed the Oz company, about whether they could check the box as gift, but they've not replied yet
