Memory Foam Mattresses - opinions please

Not sure if this is in the right place....

Can anyone please give their opinions on memory foam mattresses? Are they worth it, and are they good for people with back problems etc? Is the extra cost worth it?

We specifically have our eye on this one at argos.

Any general comments/opinions would be much appreciated.

  • We have memory foam and it is very good for your back. My biggest problem is how warm it is. Even in the depths of winter in a drafty old house we use a 4.5 tog quilt :) and in summer you can wake up sweating (sorry if TMI :) )

Part of the problem with ours is that it is solid foam. If I was buying again I'd def go for sprung with a memory foam top - this kind of thing although not necessarily this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000VVXYEW/nextag2-21/ref=nosim

There was someone else on here who was very helpful about memory foam - might be worth doing a search but I think it was him who said about the springs

Oh and one final point, put a cover on it when you get it. It marks very easily and you can't take the cover off to wash it.

i have a memory foam mattress topper and i love it! it does make the bed warmer, but where i live, that's a bonus!!! i bought mine from http://www.1stforcomfort.co.uk/ who seemed very good value when i looked (although ebay may be cheaper). i couldn't afford the whole mattress to be replaced, but it's something i would love when i have the money.

I have a solid foam one on a sprung base (came from Dreams, I think) and I love it. I had niggling back pain before which hasn't bothered me at all since we got the memory foam bed.

The cover does come off mine (zips off) for washing but we were recommended to use a mattress cover so we have done so.

Yes, we do have other threads about memory foam mattresses, if you search this board for memory foam they will come up.

I'd do a merge, but I'm not sure that wouldn't get confusing because some deal with mattresses, and some with mattress toppers ... and I'm not sure I know what the difference is!

I wouldn't have another memory foam mattress, but ours is mem foam on foam which as posted above is unbearably hot. The attached link suggests memory foam on pocket springs is a better option.

I wouldn't pay that much for a reflex foam/memory foam mattress, especially as they don't say how deep the memory foam is, or what density it is. Try to get more info from them.
