What happens to utilility bills when BR

Hi,
My partner and myself went BR 01 Apr and have gas, electric and water bills with outstanding amounts prior to BR dates.
Our flat is rented with no regular access to meters so can't go on pre paid meters, is there anything we can do about the outstanding amounts?

    Hi,
We had a number of utility bills outstanding prior to our bankruptcy, we included all of them and whilst the OR was ok with this we are still getting letters from debt collection agencies acting for the utility companies despite faxing my bankruptcy dec over to them - i guess these third parties by the debt from the utility companies and then dont like to take no for an answer!!

My advice is stick to your guns and should be ok. Try to talk to someone over the phone and ensure they place records of the conversation against your account.

  • All bills prior to BR are included.

I took new meter readings when I got back from court and phoned them to my elec/gas company. I have a prepay elec which they were taking the debt back at 5.00 a week. Took me 10 days to get them to cut that back to 1p a week. Won't remove debt until they got original court papers.

So I guess my OR will deal with them. We have now moved to another company but in hubbys name.
