Mortgage exit fee help

Hi all, i have just sold my house and have had to pay a mortgage exit fee of £250. i bought my house in July 2005 and it sold in August 2008.
I rang Northern Rock up and asked about the mortgage exit fee, and if i was due any money back but they explained that i was not eligble for a refund as it was stated in my contract about the mortgage exit fee.
Is this true and i can't claim anything back?

If £250 was what was stated in your contract then there's nothing to claim back as you agreed to it when you took the mortgage out.0
