Heads of Ayr farm park is right beside craig tara have been a couple of times. It isn't huge but there are trampolines and a play area and sandpit as well as the animals. My boys love the slides inside. Have a great time

We have stayed at a lodge close to ayr before with two kids (4 and 2 at the time).
Heads of Ayr is well worth a visit, hope for dry day.
Also..
Bell isle Park has a little animal park
Culzean Castle and Gardens is great for a run around

Soft play on rainy days http://www.piratepetes.co.uk/ On the beach front next to this play centre is a super sand playpark
Had a quick look at the Haven website for Craig Tara and it says..
By train or bus
The nearest train and bus station is Ayr about 4 miles from Craig Tara Holiday Park. There is an hourly bus service from the station to the Park.
Haven has negotiated a 10% discount with National Express. Call 0871 781 8181 for more details.0 -

The swimming at Craig tara itself is not bad - its not centre parks but has flumes and stuff. Restrictive opening hours however, think it was 10-12.45 then 2 till 5.
At the ayr race courses theres a fab car boot sale on a sunday morning, though not sure of public transport at that time. Theres also an ok beach at craig tara if you get the weather.0 -
There is a Stagecoach bus service from Ayr Station & Town Centre to Craig Tara. This link will take you to the timetable

There's an Odeon cinema in Ayr, and also Ten Pin Bowling, in case the weather is rubbish. If you're here during our October school holidays, there might be stuff on at Carneigie Libary, which is close to the High Street.
