mortgage offer delay - whats going on?

Hi can anyone shed some light onto what might be going on with the sale of my house?

We're selling to an investor who is getting a buy to let mortgage. He told me a week ago that he had his mortgage offer in writing and we were just waiting for it to go to the solicitor, but, 2 days before the proposed exchange and completion date we're still waiting.

The solicitor is always on the other line and her assistants won't tell us anything so has anyone got any idea what's going on here? We're not going to get sorted by Friday now but if I have no idea what's going on I have no idea if and when completion is likely  am I likely to be waiting months or days??? I don't even know whether I should start packing.

Get on the phone to the solicitors and if you cant speak to your solicitor leave a message asking them to phone back as soon as they are free or say you will employ the services of someone who will. Remind them who is paying the bill. If they continue to mess you about then seriously consider using someone else.

Dont accept any nonesense from them this close to your exchange date. Its stressful enough without them adding to it.

It could be for any number of reasons and is one of those "how long is a piece of string" type questions.

The only person who would know (or could find out) is your solicitor so you need to ask him. He may also be in the dark if the buyers solicitor isn't telling him anything. You need to persevere on the phone, it is afterall what you are paying him for.

    Best of luck

Thanks - I've been on the phone all afternoon though and I can't get through they always say she's on the other line and she never rings back. I'll keep going!

Are the solicitors local to you, or one supplied by your mortgage company? Obviously if the former then get visiting personally! :)
