Hello I'm just starting out on my journey through BR. I have been to CAB and they have filled out all the forms for me, which was very helpfull. My mood has plumitted to an almighty low and I am off work sick in the event try and sort it all out.
So far I have a court date of the 6th October which I have put back from the 22nd Sept as that is 3 days before I get paid.
I have secured a private rented house to which I should move in on the 2nd Sept. However, I'm still struggling to read through all these posts to find out what to do next. Ok so I need a new bank account with the Co op and when do I get this before or after?
On the 1st Sept I will have missed my first mortgage payment. The money i am using to pay for BR. I'm concerned about the utility bills as I have not missed any of these either yet. Also Do I need to speak with my other suppliers like Virgin and Orange. Will I need to include these in the BR?
CAB checked with the EA to see if there was a bankruptcy policy in the tennancy agreement and there isn't. So am I to assume that they can't kick me out once it goes through? Gosh there are so many questions. I'm going through this on my own and trying hard to think of everything so I don't miss anything. I look forward to any help what so ever.... What a great site this is by the way.

If I were you I would open the Co-op account after BC. If you haven't missed any utility bills then I wouldn't worry about that then. You don't need to notify suppliers like Virgin and Orange. If you decide to include any money you owe them in your bankruptcy the official receiver will deal with them. If you don't owe them anything and want to carry on with the services they provide (I'm guessing tv and mobile phone) then it depends if the official receiver will allow them, if not then the money would have to come out of any surplus you would have.
I would have thought that if there is no bankruptcy clause in your tenancy agreement (like there wasn't in mine) then you should be allowed to carry on living there. You could always ask the official receiver not to contact your landlord, but that depends on the official receiver in question.
Don't forget to call a debt charity such as the CAB or CCCS/national debtline for advice though before you make the final decision as if you don't take proper advice the judge can refuse your petition
By the way, welcome to the board

Agree with everything december says.
With regards to bank accounts lots of posters on here open one before bc and have not had them frozen That is entirely up to you. We have found on here that co-op or barclays are about the only 2 bc friendly ones. Co-op are tightening their rules now, so if they are one of your creditors it is unlikly they will allow you a basic(only sort allowed whilst an undischarged bc)account. Barclays seemto allow you a basic account even if they are one o you credtors.
You must keep paying your utility bills but the rest of your creditors stop payng them now, if you have not already done so.
Just keep asking questions, more knowledge makes for a less stressful journey through bc.

Thank you so much for your help I will seek further advice before I make any future decisions. It all seems so mind boggling, I do know it's doable as so many on here have done it all with that relief at the end. But it's one hell of a scary ride. Once again thank you.

I also wanted to add a welcome...
Feel free to post any questions and we will all help you through. I'm now BR and like yourself was worried about various things. It's normal and when it's all sorted you will feel so much better.
CAB helped me with my forms too, and people on this forum. Clarke said they were the best she had seen that day. That it showed I had taken advice too. So your in good hands.BSC No: 186 There is always light at the end of the tunnel. Unless someone's nicked the candle !

I've just brought the council tax upto date and I will be moving out on the 2nd like I said, so do you think it's ok to let them know this now. I owe a massive £3.03 on my gas bill as I put meter readings in this week. Nothing owing on electric in fact they owe me. I have tried to get a final moving in date to the rented house and they are coming back to me. Do I tell the gas and elec that I'm moving, I know this sounds a stupid question but not sure if I'm to ask for meters and if I do should it be a pay as you go or a credit meter(what ever that is). It been an eventful morning so far but I'm left wondering what else I should be considering apart from packing. :rotfl: My sister keeps telling me all will be well and that thousands are going through this too, it just feels so final that I've failed if you can understand that?:o

Hi Moogle
My checklist was:
Before BR
-Cancel all d/ds except credit card, which I then used to pay for BR.
-Withdraw all cash in account. I actually withdrew it all a few days before BR, right up to my overdraft limit. I then kept the money under the bed.
-I asked my b/f at the time if I could use his account to have my pay paid into for 1 month while I made the transition to co-op, and notified HR of the change before their payroll deadline.
-applied for a cashplus mastercard. This arrived a week before my BR date and I was able to activate it a load up some money before I lost use of my switch card.
On the day.
Went BR!
Immediately went into co-op and applied to open an account. The account was opened within 10 days and once I had details, I again notified HR before the payroll deadline.
As you say thousands are going through this so you are not alone. If I were you I would notify gas and electric of the exact day and time that you vacate the property - you don't want any nasty surprises in a few months time!BCSC Member 70:j

A lot of us felt failures when we started on our bc route. I can not wave a magic wand but will say it is easier once you accept that it is a mistake that you will never repeat. You have to learn how to deal with it in your own way.It does get easier to accept once all the letters and phone calls stop, then you look back realise how stressed you really were and how long you had been fighting for this not to happen. Once your mind gets cleared of a few things you will be able to see things better. Keep posting as it does help you know.DxFree impartial debt advice available from: National Debtline - Tel: 0808 808 4000 | The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) - Tel: 0800 138 1111 | Find your local Citizens Advice Bureau
