Sneaky Tip: Find out post Xmas prices early

Just a quick one. Most magazines for January, especially electrical and computing mags come out in December. If you're planning to buy these products, then often the ads list the post christmas prices - an easy way to check what's going to be happening.

OR for items over £50 couldn't you just do the barclaycard trick as mentioned by Martin in this article

Sorry - am I missing something here? Surely if a mag is out in December and has prices advertised, the retailer is obliged to sell immediately at those prices? If I were a retailer, I'd post my post-Xmas prices in the February issue that comes out post-Xmas...
Generally, it's plain that prices will generally drop after Xmas anyway - I've often asked for money/vouchers in lieu of presents because I know I'll get more for my cash!!
