Has anyone used a pinate at a party? If so what have you filled it with? Did you make it yourself? how did you make it? Did the children enjoy it? Was it easy to make. ...
Ok so after all of them questions I was wondering if anyone could help me with the above? I would like to make this pinate

Its a pikachi (pokemon) I have found instructions here (american) http://www.makingfriends.com/pikachupinata.htm
I have approx 3 weeks to get a cupcake stand made, and a pinata if I decide I am capable of doing so.
Also can anyone suggest the best kind of party food? I don't want to go too overboard but there will be approx 35-40 children coming  and I need to keep them occupied and also well fed/watered.

Hi Rusty, blimey girl sounds like a lot of work  ! Hope you've got lots of willing helpers! If not, rope some in
No idea on the pinata sorry but could you do pin the tail on Pikachu as a game
Food and drink I would keep really simple. Kids never eat as much as you think they will when at a party as there's too much going on to stop and eat. Do you have access to an oven where the party is being held? You could do pizza and nuggets plus some carrot sticks, fruit, biscuits and cupcakes. If no oven I think I would go for food boxes so you won't be left with hundreds of sandwiches etc left over. How about 2 quarters of sandwich - one ham, one cheese; sausage roll or cocktail sausage (or both); carrot sticks; grapes; biscuit and a carton of drink.
As for things to do how about big sheets of paper to colour/draw on; box of cars & a couple of car mats; soft footballs to kick about; musical chairs; pass the parcel...
Any good? If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain :wave:0 -

Any good?
Think it will quite possibly be mayhem! only 1 helper to start then OH will arrive. Basically it is being held at my MIL's club so it will be closed to the public for my sons party (cheap venue as it is free!) there are ovens but I planned to cook all day the day before so it was all ready then whilst my son is at school on his birthday I could make all of the sandwiches. Party food sounds great! Thankyou.
Colouring is a great idea, never thought of that! footballs will be a no no as it is all indoors and you can guarentee someone will kick it and it will smash all of the optics behind the bar. Pin the tail on Pikachu is another good one! Thanks!Raising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0 -
I Made Pinata's Last year, Found them quite easy and I roped the kids into help with the paper masche.
1st one I did was a spider so easy shape and I would say that Pickachu would be very similar.
Round Balloon blown up, cover with old newspaper
The more layers you put on the longer it takes to smash
(....I did quite  a lot on the spider and there was only 10 kids and it took them nearly 1/2 hour to smash it LOL:rotfl: )
After the 2nd layer put a rope at the top (I used some old washing line) to hang it up with.
Make sure you leave a hole at the top to fill with treats and when all the paper mache is done and dried pop the balloon on the inside.
Then you can think about decorating it, I used shredded black crepe paper and tissue paper for the body and made Long orange Crepe paper Legs stuck some eyes on and it was ready to fill. After filling cover the top with a few layers of paper and seal.
I'm sure you could make the sticky out ears either after or during the paper mache stage, Or you could make the pokemon ball thingy.
If you want a really big one like my friend did for a football party (she had 50 kids go, she filled it with little footballs, football rubbers, sweets, choc footballs, confeti) use one of them punch ballons.
As for fillings I know pokemon stuff can be quite expensive maybe you could get some cheap pingpong balls and colour them to look like pokemon balls that would fill it out, some sweets, confettie and any left over tissue and crepe paper cut up into squares.
And to make the smashing thingy I used an old wooden broom handle that I wrapped loads of tissue paper round and added colourful tassles at the bottom

PS as for party ideas I'm lost really, only really do the pinata as the rest I tend to do arts and crafts with the kiddies instead of games themed around the party:D:D:D:D

You have probably seen this one, but just incase it has a few ideas for pokemon style party games
http://www.amazingmoms.com/htm/party_pokemon_birthday.htm
I thought this was a good one as your in a club not at home
Search for the Pokeballs
Before the party make several “pokeballs” using white plastic golf balls and red and black acrylic paint. If the birthday child is old enough, it will be fun for them to help with this task. On the day of the party hide the balls throughout the party area or yard. Send the kids on a hunt to find all of the balls. You may want to divide the kids in teams or limit the amount the individuals can find. Players can then receive a small candy or sticker for each ball that they collect.

Hi Sarah, Thankyou for the links. Unfortunately the pokemon partyware is only available in the states (as always) I spent hours last night searching for ways to create a party based around pokemon only to wake up this morning to be asked if he could have a star wars party instead  I told him that he can't keep changing his mind and that he had to decide on a pokemon party or a star wars party and he is adament that he would like star wars
So now the plans have changed. I am out this morning to buy supplies for the cupcake holder. And plan to use black plates if I can find them and just buy them themed serviettes. Guess I now need to look for a new pinata that I can make, providing he doesn't change his mind again
